After reading Porphyria's Lover...i felt like sharing the same sentiments as that of the protagonist..rather antagonist of the poem. Porphyria comes to his arms, much to the disdain of her family..but still he kills her...why???
In India, we do have our share of news, when we get to know, that some lunatic person throws acid on his beloved (?) , after getting rejected in love... why??
I would never draw a comparison between the above two...because ruining one's life is a heinous crime..but what i would like to know, how love..an amazing feeling itself, can propel a person to murder someone, whom he/she literally worshiped???...
I assume ...Porphyria's Lover was quite sure..that Porphyria might kneel down to her parents' wish..or might succumb to the society's norms...
perhaps he understood his own inability to love Porphyria...
perhaps he thought he would die if he sees Porphyria getting married to some one else....
I just don't know....
But he's so convinced about his wrongdoing...that he says that even God hasn't said a word....
Does he expect to get punished by God...??
Does he belive that his act is justified...??
Another thing that has amazed me,is the way Porphyria devotes herself to this man...even he's surprised...the subtle tone of sexuality is there....
Porphyria worshiped him..yet he killed her....
Porphyria adored him...yet he killed her....
Porphyria desired him..yet he killed her...
Why ?????????????????????????????????
Love never ceases to amaze me......
